Retail Stores like Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, MAC, etc. are my “Happy Place(s)”. I spend HOURS educating myself on products, testing new ones, and mixing, matching, setting, and applying EVERYTHING these places have to offer (and YES, I do all the research myself, check labels, research ingredients, sanitize the testers after use, and I ALWAYS clean up my mess, thank you very much, as well as purchase my favorite products). So on days when I have a few hours to kill, I go to my “Happy Place(s)”, (without my Husbie, of course, because he gets SO BORED) and I get into my “Test/Lab Zone”. So last week, I went to Sephora, and tested, purchased, and researched some of Sephora’s Most Popular Beauty Brands’ Best Sellers (as of right now), as well as new products that just hit the market. And these are the “MUST HAVE” products, that you need in your makeup collection, like NOW.
Fenty Beauty “Killawatt Foil Freestyle Highlighter Duo”
- “Sand Castle/Mint’d Mojito”
- “Mimosa Sunrise/Sangria Sunset”
- “7DayWknd/ Poolside”.
Fenty Beauty is always on point when it comes to highlighting. Fenty’s “Killawatt Freestyle Highlighters/Duos” literally, KILL IT, when it comes to highlighting and blush topping. The smooth, creamy, texture, and the high color payoff is what keeps these highlighters on the “Best Seller” list, at Sephora, and on http://www.fentybeauty.com. And the “Killawatt Foil Freestyle Highlighters”, are no different.
At first when I saw these online, I was a little weirded out by the color combinations, as well as just the colors in general. But once I tried them, the color combinations are SO GORGEOUS! Fenty Beauty/Rihanna really knows their/her pigment science. And even though these vibrant colors might not seem like highlighter material, once blended out, and toned down, the colors are actually pretty perfect for highlighting. The creamy and smooth texture GLIDES on to skin, and picks up well with any makeup brush, and the colors are extremely pigmented. Once applied, the colors can be blended out for a more subtle look, and look beautiful on any skin tone. If you’re going for subtle, “Sand Castle/Mint’d Mojito” is probably the most natural/subtle color option, and since the color payoff is so high, you don’t need much product, and they adhere to skin for a long wear time, which is perfect for Summer, because of heat, sweat, beach/pool time, etc. The finish is metallic/shimmery, (hence, the “Foil” part in the name) and can be layered on for a more dramatic/high fashion look, and they are PERFECT for “Festival” Season, because of long wear time, and adding a creative pop to your “Festival” makeup. And me being the creative type to mix and use certain products that don’t belong on certain parts of my face, can totally justify using these as eyeshadows or shimmery shadow liners, or you can even mix these with a lip mixer, mixing medium, or eye gloss, to create cream/liquid shadows, lip creams, lip gloss, or cream highlighters! Really, there’s nothing you can’t do as far as makeup application goes with these vibrant colors!
Bravo, Fenty! You’ve done it again! Check out Fenty’s other items from their new “Beach” Collection, like Fenty’s “Body Lava”, which is SOLD OUT, unfortunately, but I’m crossing my fingers for a restock!!!
Too Faced “Natural Nudes” Lipstick From The “It Just Comes Naturally” Line
- “Send Nudes”
- “Strip Search”
- “Skinny Dippin’”
- “Birthday Suit”
- “Nip Slip”
- “Pout About It”
- “Girl Code”
- “Throwin’ Suede”
- “Indecent Proposal”
Of course, being the self proclaimed, “QUEEN”, of nude lipsticks (Sorry, KKW) naturally, I saw these and headed straight towards them as soon as I walked into Sephora. And the first thing that came to mind (aside from “I NEED THESE NOW”) was that Too Faced, has definitely stepped up it’s game in the past six months. In fact, the Too Faced “It Just Comes Naturally Line”, is all *MUST HAVE* material.
“It Just Comes Naturally” is mostly repackaged, and revamped palettes from the past, like their “Natural Eyes” Eyeshadow Palette, the “Natural Matte” Eyeshadow Palette, and the “Natural Face”, Face Palette (that is now packaged like a contouring/highlighting palette, different from it’s old color pan placement design), along with Too Faced Bronzers, “Sun Bunny” and “Milk Chocolate Soleil”, and of course, their brand new “Natural Nudes” Lipstick Line. The girly, blush, gold, shimmery brown, and rose gold, packaging, that is adorned with lace, and subtle floral patterns, is a HOME RUN, as far as marketing and packaging strategy goes. And every Beauty Buff is, literally, lusting after this entire collection! But with the line of lipsticks being the only new products from Too Faced, in this entire collection, I had to try them all, and see what Too Faced has genially concocted…. And it’s a total SUCCESS.
These lipsticks are not only gorgeous, but they are moisturizing, highly pigmented, buildable, and smooth in texture, unlike a lot of the industry’s most beautiful collections of nude lipsticks, that just so happen to be liquid formulas with a matte finish, drying, cake-y, and tend to crack over time, with the exception of KKW by Kylie Cosmetics, set of nude lipsticks, which have a creamy, non drying, formula. They come in twist up packaging, with a “bullet” style lipstick, which you can apply directly to your lips for high color payoff, or you can use a lip brush for a more subtle look. They are all satin finished, and have coconut butter in them, (which gives them their coconut “fragrance”) which helps keep your lips moisturized, plump, and supple. Too Faced claims these lipsticks have “8 Hour Wear Time”, but I’ll have to disagree, because any satin finished lipstick (especially in stick formula, AND containing coconut butter) has to be applied after eating or drinking, due to it’s emollient-like formula. BUT it did wear well for a few hours before I ate or drank. These lipstick are also Gluten Free, Cruelty Free, Vegan, and Paraben Free, so they are great for sensitive lips! Too Faced touts that there is a “nude shade for every complexion”, which is 100% TRUE! None of the beautiful shades have any yellow hues in them, which can tend to make darker skin/lips look grey, which is one of the things I love most about this collection of pout perfectors! Every color is literally, PERFECTION!
Fenty Beauty “Lil Match Stix Duo” Mini Shimmer Skin Stix Set
Fenty Beauty is seriously Summer’s HOTTEST trending beauty brand right now; and for good reason. Fenty is all about SHIMMERING/GLOWING. And for only $22, you can grab two mini “Match Stix” in “Starstruck/Sinamon”, which is a STEAL. Both of these universal highlighting/shimmer sticks, are gorgeous on any skin tone, and the best part? They’re super blendable, but still highly pigmented! And they are extremely long wearing! Since the color payoff is so high, a little goes a long way, whether you are using this to highlight the high points of your face, using them as a lip topper, or applying it as an eyeshadow.
When Fenty Beauty released their original “Match Stix” Trios, I was afraid to try them, because I didn’t want to disturb the finished setting of my foundation, which in turn probably wouldn’t blend into my makeup, due to the emollient formula clashing with my powder foundation, and I was also worried that if I used them under my foundation/setting powder, my foundation/setting powder would just end up covering the “Match Stix” color application. But after trying the “Match Stix Shimmer Stix”, I decided to try the original “Match Stix”, and the formula did the exact opposite, that I thought it would do; Both formulas are blendable, over or under setting/foundation powder, and they are long wearing. The “Match Stix Shimmer Stix” add an extremely pigmented, long wearing, super shimmery highlight, that can be blended out for a more subtle look, or lightly blended, for a more obvious highlight. Even though the shimmer in this formula is high, and is meant for a more obvious highlight (unless you blend it out to make it more subtle), it doesn’t make you look “frosty”, or overdone. Which is a LUXURY when it comes to liquid or stick formula highlighters.
“Starstruck”, is the lighter “Match Stix Shimmer” color, and is a beautiful petal based, color, that goes well with any skin tone, and doesn’t make darker skin tones look grey. “Sinamon”, is a beautiful deep bronze with golden shimmer, which is again, universal, and is beautiful for contouring, or using it as a bronzer or blush. Seriously! Grab these gems while you can! Their long wear and shimmer is perfect for Summer!
Tatcha “Luminous Dewy Skin Mist”
Ever since Tatcha hit the Beauty Scene, I’ve been hearing amazing reviews about their serums, skin mists, gels, primers, and cleansers. But there is a catch; Tatcha is expensive, BUT it’s not as expensive as “La Mer”, which is a relief. When it comes to skin care, you should splurge only when necessary, because there are SO MANY products out there that are expensive, but don’t have the ingredients that you need for beautiful skin, and there are also more affordable products that do have all of the benefits of an expensive treatment/serum/lotion, etc. There are so many brands that make certain creams and serums look like “The Holy Grail” of skin care, but unfortunately, they lack the important ingredients, like Hyaluronic Acid, Retinol, Vitamin C (the form that can actually absorb into your skin) etc. that are beneficial for anti-aging, firming, etc. So you need to be careful. ALWAYS CHECK LABELS. ALWAYS CHECK INGREDIENTS. ALWAYS DO YOUR RESEARCH. And that’s what’s so great about Tatcha; they know their stuff. And they know the ingredients that are beneficial for beauties that love to cake their face.
Tatcha’s “Luminous Dewy Skin Mist” is great as far as hydration goes. You can use it to prime, refresh, touch up, or hydrate your face, either on the go, or before you leave the house. It’s recommended for “Normal To Dry Skin” but I have Combination/Oily Skin, and I ended up loving this product. Even though I struggle with semi-oily skin, I notice that my skin can get fairly dry throughout the day (which is kind of odd), so when I used this it completely refreshed my makeup, and hydrated my skin, which made my face literally, glow. And not a shimmery or sparkly glow, but just a healthy, hydrated, fresh face of makeup, type of glow. Which is beneficial for ANY face of makeup needing some extra hydration or a refreshing spritz to liven up your face. With that being said, knowing that it’s recommended for dry skin, I’d recommend that Beauties with Oily/Combination Skin, use this strictly as a hydration spray/makeup refresher. And Beauties with Dry Skin, use this as a primer or setting spray. You’re probably thinking, “Well why spend money on a mist that I can only use for Hydration, and not a primer or setting spray?”…. The answer to that is this; If you have skin like I do, which is Combination/Oily, but gets dry during the day, and there aren’t any other refreshing or hydration sprays that TRULY hydrate, from your makeup to your epidermis, then this hydration spray is for you! PLUS, it has hyaluronic acid, which locks moisture in, and is a great anti-aging ingredient. And Dry to Very Dry Skin?? This mist truly is “The Holy Grail”.
